HP Service Desk 4.5 on Windows 7

UPDATE UPDATE UPDATE

This method is no longer needed. Install SD as normal, and drop the latest service pack jar file into “installation path\Hewlett-Packard\OpenView\service desk 4.5\client\lib” and start the client.

The issue with HP Service Desk 4.5 on Windows 7 has been an irritating one but we have a solution!

1. Install the MSJava SD requires.
2. Make sure your Sun Java is up to date.
3. Install the Service Desk client.
4. Run regedit.
5. Search the registry for all occurrences of msado15.dll. You will find that the keys contain %CommonProgramFiles%
6. Replace all occurences of %CommonProgramFiles% with C:Program FilesCommon Files (2 keys will fail, that’s ok)
7. Open a command prompt with elevated privileges.
8. Enter (without quotes) “regsvr32.exe C:Program FilesCommon FilesSystemadomsado15.dll”

64bit! (Thanks Clemens!)

1. Run regedit.
2. Search the registry for all occurrences of msado15.dll. You will find that the keys contain %CommonProgramFiles%
3. Replace all occurences of %CommonProgramFiles% with C:Program Files (x86)Common Files (2 keys will fail, that’s ok)
4. Open a command prompt with elevated privileges.
5. Enter (without quotes) “regsvr32.exe C:Program Files (x86)Common FilesSystemadomsado15.dll”

Because SD wants to use the 32 bit dll you need to point to the “Program Files (x86)” folder instead of the “Program Files” folder.

Run the client and configure your connection!
